Red Bull Racing has reiterated their threat of quitting if they can't get a winning motor. Renault has also hinted at leaving the sport of they can't make an engine. Sponsors and engine suppliers come and go. But, it's rare for teams to just up and quit. Instead they just change owners and names. Look at Manor-Marussia for one, it was just Marussia, and before that Virgin-Marussia, and before that just Virgin, and before that it was Manor. Or Mercedes, which came from Brawn, which came from Honda, which came from Lucky Strike BAR Honda, which came from British American Racing, which came from Tyrrell.
This leads us back to Stewart Grand Prix, which was taken over by Ford o become the even more miserable failure known as Jaguar Racing. Ford sold off the assets to Red Bull because, "no longer make a compelling business case for any of its brands to compete in F1." This is eerily close to both Red Bull and Renault's predicament now.
So you can see, the circle jerk of naming is a strong F1 tradition, but who will take over if Infiniti Red Bull Racing buggers off? My theories in order from most likely to least likely:
Renault playing chicken with Red Bull hoping that RBR pulls out first and take over the team. This would make sense as they are also considering to become a full on factory team again after selling the team off to Lotus F1 which this year dropped the Renault power for Mercedes.
VAG steps up to the plate using either the VW name, the Audi name or even a return of Bugatti. Porsche is unlikely to return to F1 given the rebirth of their Le Mans program.
Ford rekindles their Cosworth flame, slaps an Eco-Boost logo on the Cosworth unit, snorts a bunch of coke and buys the team.
A Chinese brand gets into F1 after reverse engineering a stolen Mercedes power unit.
The former Top Gear hosts buy a pub and an F1 car also. They mark a return of the garage teams to F1.
Nick Denton chops off Bernie Ecclestone's head, declaring, "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE HIGHLANDER," and shuts down F1 in favor of a new ride sharing program using Apple cars.

I laughed more than I should've at options 3 and 4. I hope one or both of them happens regardless.

Obviously Ferrari will always use their own powerplants, but imagine how boring things would be if there were only 2 engine manufacturers? Sooner or later the fan will begin dispersing matter and Bernie is going to have some decisions. I can only hope!

It's only natural Jaguar buys the team and destroys everyone.
Or not.

if they do pull out in this small dry spell then I think that really diminishes what they have achieved up to this point. There are good times and bad times in F1. Look at Williams. Look at the massive dry spell that Ferarri went through before Schumacher arrived. Heck, look at mighty McLaren. You don't see them running away from Honda when their cars will barely finish a race. They need to quit their bitching and get on with it. They have good drivers and a good car. It may not be dominant, but it is good. They need to get out there and race and work with their partner to make things better.
My guess is if they do leave that Jos Verstappen and Flávio buy the team and drop his kid and Kevin Magnuson in the cars.

My bet is that VAG is quite interested i using the Audi brand in F1. They've won everything they can at Le Mans and built a legacy that few can hope to better.
With that being said, Mercedes' supposed value was many times that of Audi's Le Mans triumph and not that much more in terms of budget.
Also don't forget, we have Haas coming in next season, so in terms of numbers, it wouldn't be a loss.
